So I got some of my Robotech novels in the mail.
I got a set of all 5 Sentinels books and they are very pristine.
Started book 1. so far through Chap 5 and it is still pretty close to the OVA.
I like the changes in the dialogue. I hated the line in the OVA about the "fan tail on that Alpha.."
The line in the book about the guidance system being faulty is a much better explanation.

Read through a bit more. SDF3 arrives and Tirol and complete turmoil. So far I am enjoying how this story starts. Never one to land on their feet the REF/RDF has its work cut out for it already. Cabell and Rem are interesting as well.

Edwards is proving to be quite the xenophobe and jackass. Jack does something brave but stupid. Skull Squad gets in the action to bail out the Wolf pack that is in over their heads. I am loving this so far!

I can see how this plot is starting to build. Edwards is a bit too interested in the Invid Brian systems,Hunter is losing it as an Admiral and in a funk. Max is holding together Skull Squad but also trying to keep Rick in check. The Regent is looking for any clues to protoculture.

Edwards is proving to be quite the xenophobe and jackass This was probably one of the main reasons I did not like The Sentinels novelizations. Edwards is too one-dimensionally evil. At least in the script treatments he states he cannot order Skull Squadron to aid The Wolfe Pack because his hands are tied: protocol states Wolfe must call for support. It is interesting that both the novelizations and scripts have the REF composed of multiple commands, just in the novels The Army of the Southern Cross is a fully realized and autonomous entity while the scripts clearly put the ASC as the Ground Forces and part of the RDF (Edwards even states that all Wolfe has done is get expensive 'Defense Force' equipment destroyed).

Yeah well its not the greatest characterization but both Edwards and the Regent are pretty one dimensional but it works since most of the other characters are a lot more interesting. It is nice to have a straight forward bad guy and an overly ambitious commander with revenge on his mind.

Started on book 2. Dark Powers. Now we finally meet the Sentinels. So far I am still really enjoying this. The setup here I can see will lead to a very galaxy hopping sort of adventure. A great contrast to the original story that was very centered on the conflict on Earth. I am also glad that in the books the bear folk are described as somewhat fierce and scary compared to the Tatsunoko designs in Robotech Art 3.

Still enjoying these books quite a bit. I like the pace of the writing. Enough detail to keep you interested and character interaction. Not slowed down by too much detail which is good. I find the more "real" type military lingo refreshing overall.

Finished book #2.
That was a fun ride and visualizing the battles was great. I am really starting to be even more depressed that this was never animated.
Started book #3
Mystery and intrigue and espionage. Good stuff. Back Stabbers in multiple camps.

Done with books 3 and 4. Lots of really interesting things happen to our cast of characters in this series. I enjoy all the new characters too. The dynamic of the Hunters interspersed with the Sentinels cast and the sub plot of Tesla has been really gripping.

Finished the whole series.
Overall I was very satisfied. It was engaging, fun, interesting and felt like a solid continuation/answer to the gaps in the original storyline. I think had it been animated it would be a blast to watch.
The battle with Breetai and the Regent was awesome. Better than the one I read in Prelude to the SC...
Ends on a cliff hanger but that is okay as I have End of the Circle to read now.

I have enjoyed reading the Sentinels novels including End of the Circle. The rest of the Robotech novels are interesting as well.
