Another what could have been.
Would the Sentinels have been a great show?
I think it would have been fun and like JT said on his podcast "probably the biggest swing and miss in the history of Robotech.."
I have to agree. The failure to get the Sentinels off the ground was a sign of things to come..

OK I have recently gotten the whole LEGACY box sets(I had the 3 big "bricks" of the series already) at a super cheap $40 total! Watching the Sentinels on here and honestly it looks better to me on here than on the A&E set and sounds better too. Maybe that is just my preference for the Legacy version of Robotech.

I'm not sure whether or not it would have been great -- every sign I've seen points to "NO," unfortunately -- but it would have been interesting, which is sure as heck a leg up it has on anything that's happened in the last dozen or so years (excluding a few moments in the similarly not-good-but-sometimes-interesting Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles comic series). The most frustrating thing is, all we can do is wonder. We have access to some of the scripts from shortly after the animation, we have Robotech Art 3, and we have what other creators did to remix these elements -- and somewhere out there are the rest of the scripts. But without those words being translated into animation, and without those words being spoken by the Robotech cast, we don't know if the execution could have saved some of the weaker ideas, if the momentum of a five-day-a-week TV series would have papered over some of those holes on first viewing so even if it wasn't great, a generation would have warm fuzzy memories of it, in much the same way that folks still hold some of the weaker cartoons of the 1980s dear despite their shortcomings (and the way some of us, myself included, hold Robotech Masters dear despite utterly nonsensical episodes like "Metal Fire"). Hell, even if some of the show wound up being embarrassing, the existing animation shows us that the realization of the mecha designs and fight sequences would probably have been pretty cool, right?
